The Town of Huntington is to seek bids tomorrow for repair of the Mill Dam Causeway, which crosses Mill Pond between the Little Neck peninsula and Huntington Beach.
The causeway was closed to vehicle traffic last week when it was deemed by the highway superintendent to be unsafe, according to Patricia DelCol, the town's director of engineering services.
"The bulkhead along the north and south side deteriorated," DelCol said, "significantly more on the northwest side."
DelCol said the town had already received permission from the state and the Army Corps of Engineers to go ahead with repairs, which will involve installing steel sheeting on both sides of the bridge and connecting it to the roadway.
If the work is approved at the town council's next meeting, on Sept. 25, construction could start in October. DelCol said the town hoped the work could be completed in 120 days.
