Huntington residents are encouraged to check out this year’s additions to the four-year-old town-sponsored public art initiative in area parks.
The temporary installations are works created primarily by local and regional artists. The five new works were selected from 16 proposals submitted by 13 different artists last fall.
“In addition to exposing residents and park visitors to exciting new work, our program of temporary public art installations is also designed to provide opportunities for local and regional artists to gain valuable experience in the growing field of public art,” said Town Supervisor Frank Petrone.
This year’s additions include Starlight by Thea Lanzisero Monier-Williams of Huntington, and C-Squared by Jerome Harris Parmet of Scarsdale, shown above. Both pieces are in Heckscher Park.
The other works are Moon Creature’s Forest by Reven M. Swanson of Denver, Colo., in Elwood Park; Rotten Rococo by Donna Gangloff Steward of Huntington Station, in Cold Spring Harbor Park, and Emergence by the artist team of Ugur Kunst of Smithtown and Tonito Valderrama of Ronkonkoma, in Billy Joel Park, also in Cold Spring Harbor.
You can preview the art on the town’s Web site.
For information about submitting work to the initiative, contact the town’s director of cultural affairs, John E. Coraor at 631-351-3099.
