The Village of Huntington Bay is hoping to ease the financial burden for some disadvantaged Long Island families by sponsoring a School Supplies Drive.

The village is collecting pencils, pens, notebooks, binders, backpacks, crayons, lunchboxes, markers, rulers, calculators, erasers, scissors and glue through Aug. 31.

“Our community has always demonstrated generosity to many programs in the area,” said Huntington Bay Mayor Herb Morrow. “This drive will allow our residents to do so again for those children who do not have the resources to start school with the things they need.”

New or unused supplies can be dropped off at Village Hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. All contributions will be donated to the Suffolk County Department of Social Services for distribution.
